15) The median of the following observations: 8, 11, 13, 15, 1 x+ , 3 x+ , 30, 35, 40, 43 arranged in ascending order is 22. Find the value of x.

Answer: x = 20

Section B: Attempt any three questions only(45 marks).

16) a) SAVESON invested 80,000 Frw for 3 years in a savings account. He gets a 5% per annum compound interest. How much money will SAVESON have in the savings account at the end of 3 years?

Answer:

 SAVESON will have 92,610 Frw at the end of 3 years.

b) 40 people consume 200 kg of rice in 30 days. In how many days will 30 people consume 500 kg of rice?

Answers:

It will take 100 days for 30 people to consume 500 kg of rice.

17)Given that P (x)= x3 -x2 -14x+24 =(x-24) (ax2 +bx + c)

a) Determine the values of a, b and c.

Answer:

a = 1

b = 1

c = -12

Now the equation is P(x) = (x - 2)(x2 + x - 12)

b. Factorize completely (P x).

Now we need to factor the quadratic part: x2 + x - 12.

We look for two numbers that multiply to -12 and add to 1. Those numbers are 4 and -3.

So, x2 + x - 12 factors into (x + 4) (x - 3).

c) Solve P (X)= 0.

To solve the equation, we set each factor to zero:

  1. x - 2 = 0→x = 2
  2. x + 4 = 0 →x = -4
  3. x - 3 = 0→x = 3

Solution set: x € {-4, 2, 3}

Mathematics

A: x = 6 or x = -2

B: Final Answer: x=2.25 (or  )

C: There is no value of x for which u = u

Mathematics
